How the Ladder Works
1
The Basics

-
Players are ranked on a ladder based primarily on last year's results, USTA ratings, and when a player registers for or joins the ladder.
-
You can challenge players ranked a set number of rungs above you.
-
Win your match? Take your opponent's spot while they drop down one rung.
-
If you, as the challenger, lose, you remain on your rung, as does your opponent.
2
Challenge Rules

-
You can challenge one opponent and be challenged by another opponent, allowing for two matches to be scheduled simultaneously.
-
Once a challenge is issued, you and your opponent coordinate a match at a time and place that suits you both.
-
Matches must be played within fourteen days of the challenge being accepted, or it's withdrawn.
-
Matches are 9-game pro sets (with a 10-point tiebreak at 8-8) unless both players agree to two out of three sets with a third set superbreaker.
-
The winner is responsible for posting match results.
3
Ladder Rules

-
To keep the competition moving, you must respond to challenges within 48 hours or forfeit the challenge.
-
You can temporarily leave the ladder for any reason, with no penalty in the standings when you return.
-
If you decline a challenge, you forfeit the match.
-
You'll drop a certain amount of rungs if you forfeit more than three times in a row.
-
At the end of the season, players who play more than a certain amount of matches qualify for the end-of-year tournaments.
